End of Windows XP: Who are at risk

NEW YORK: Microsoft will end support for the persistently popular Windows XP on Tuesday, and the move could put everything from the operations of heavy industry to the identities of everyday people in danger.

An estimated 30% of computers being used by businesses and consumers around the world are still running the 12-year-old operating system.

"What once was considered low-hanging fruit by hackers now has a big neon bull's eye on it," says Patrick Thomas, a security consultant at the San Jose, California-based firm Neohapsis.

Microsoft has released a handful of Windows operating systems since 2001, but XP's popularity and the durability of the computers it was installed on kept it around longer than expected. Analysts say that if a PC is more than five years old, chances are it's running XP.

NEW DELHI: The rumours of Nokia's Android phone refuse to die, even as the company's board has given approval to the sale of its handset unit to Microsoft. Normandy, the budget Android smartphone that Nokia was developing, has once again - with photos as well as specifications.

The handset, codenamed A110, has display resolution of 854x480 and runs on Android 4.4.1 (KitKat). Other features include a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 5MP rear camera. A NokiaPowerUser report says that the phone will have a 4-inch display and will another variant will be codenamed RM-980.

Twitter users EVLeaks, which has been behind several accurate leaks in the past, has said posted three photos of the phone detailing the user interface. According by the photos, the phone will carry the same look as the Lumia and revamped Asha range of handsets. The screenshot shows two signal bars, suggesting a dual-sim model.
